Wholesome tracks over 80 nutrients including: macronutrients, vitamins, minerals, phytonutrients, and antioxidants. Using Wholesome you can easily identify gaps in your nutrition and get whole food suggestions to improve your diet.

Did you know that women are recommended to have twice as much iron as men and pregnant women need three times as much? Just set your profile and the app will take all of these factors into account and set your goals according to the USDA guidelines. Want to get extra protein or set your sodium goal lower? You can customize your own nutrient targets within settings.

Wholesome also has a list of the best food sources for each nutrient. For example, you can easily see the best sources of iron in a list view.

Intelligent food suggestions

Wholesome Pro goes beyond just tracking foods, it also suggests what to eat next to fill your nutrition gaps. So if you didn’t get enough iron and protein for breakfast or lunch, Wholesome will find foods rich in both for dinner. You can get suggestions for the day or get suggestions on your trend over time.

Save & track your own recipes

With Wholesome you can:

  • Group foods together within the app to create a recipe.
  • Add a recipe from a cookbook and include a photo of the instructions. 
  • Bookmark and calculate the nutrition of recipes on the web.

I never rate apps but I have to show my appreciation to the creators of this one. I was looking for a food tracking app that tracked good food. I used other food trackers for years and wondered why I needed their database to track the processed junk I shouldn't be eating in the first place. Who cares if you have millions of items in a database if 90% of them are foods that are bad for you. If you are tracking the food you ate at McDonalds should you really be using a tracking app? I digress... So I thought a tracker would exist that showed healthy foods to eat but Wholesome is another level. I never thought I could care so much about micronutrients! It is one of the most beautiful home screens I've had pleasure of using and I look forward to eating healthy and caring what I put in my body more than the old calorie counter.
